Philip Leichty, Senior Pastor

Philip Leichty

Retired Pastor

Counselor

Served 1985-2015

Family:
I live with my wife, Virginia. We have four adult children and seven grandchildren.  They live in exciting places across our nation and in Canada.

How long you’ve been connected to Burr Oak:
I have been connected to Burr Oak Church most of my life. I began my ministry as pastor in September, 1985.  I was licensed in that role at the beginning of 1986 and was ordained in 1989.

Important Verses for me:  Psalm 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Favorite Quote:
“Following Jesus is filled with thrills, romance, and adventure.” -Rev. Loren Helm

Music you’re listening to:
Live music at the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Chris Tomlin, Josh Groban, Susan Boyle, Jackie Evancho, Kenny G, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, and finally Third Day when I want to get work done.

Something quirky about yourself:
I can do a rip-roaring rendition of “Hello Dolly” that puts Louis Armstrong to shame–but of course that would be for my wife’s ears only.
